Firework Season - Keeping your pets safe & calm

Firework Season - Keeping your pets safe & calm

As the dark nights approach and the loud bangs begin, here we will offer a bunch of tips on keeping your furry friends safe during this noisy and spooky time. It's crucial to look out for the well-being and security of your pets.

Tip 1 - Walk Before Dark & Keep Them Close

Plan walks earlier in the day while it’s still light, some dogs can get spooked easily by fireworks, so always keep dogs on a lead.

Ensure pets have up-to-date ID tags and microchips.

Keep cats indoors before nightfall, close windows, cat flaps, and curtains

Tip 2 - Create a Safe Space

Everyone loves a den! Provide a den for your pet, a cozy area with blankets, toys, and maybe a piece of your clothing for reassurance. Closing curtains and playing soft music or a TV can help mask loud bangs.

If your pet hides, let them be. Forcing them out can increase anxiety. Sit nearby quietly and let them come to you when they feel safe.

Tip 3 - Keep Them Occupied

Distraction is key! Give pets long-lasting chews, hide small treats around the house, or play gentle interactive games to keep their minds busy.

The more engaged they are, the less focused they’ll be on the scary noises outside.

We hope these tips help you and your fluffy family stay safe and calm this fireworks season. Keep an eye out, we’ll be sharing more handy advice soon to make sure your pets stay happy and stress-free!
